Description: Disaster Preparedness and Forest Resiliency in Eastern North Carolina 

July 20th, 2021

This workshop educates landowners and natural resource professionals about how they should prepare and respond to risk and uncertainty from natural disasters to maintain healthy forests in Eastern NC.

Venue: Duplin County Extension Office (Keanansville) and Zoom (link sent upon registration)

Who Should Attend: Landowners and natural resource professionals who want to know more about natural disaster risks and how to prepare and respond to these risks for maintaining forest resiliency

Registration: Free but advanced registration is required. To register, visit: go.ncsu.edu/forest-resiliency

Format: HYBRID. A limited number of attendees will be allowed to register for the in-person program at the Duplin County Extension Office to maintain COVID protocols. The full program will also be broadcast in real-time via Zoom. You will be asked to choose one option when you register.

8:30 AM: Registration and breakfast

9-9:30 AM: Disaster preparedness & emergency responses (Kelly Nilsson, Disaster Recovery Coordinator, NCDA)

9:30-10 AM: Post-disaster salvage harvests and other reclamation activities (Greg Conner, Consulting forester)

10-10:30 AM: Federal and state incentive programs (Rob Lipford, North Carolina Forest Service) 

10:30-10:45 AM: Break (coffee)

10:45-11:15 AM: Post-disaster forest health issues and management strategies (Kelly Oten, NCSU Extension Forestry)

11:15-11:45 AM: Forest Resiliency-climate smart forestry (Michael Gavazzi, SE Climate Hub Coordinator, US Forest Service)

11:45 AM -12:15 PM: Resiliency efforts on wildlife management (Deanna Noble, Conservation Biologist, NC WRC)

12:15 PM: Adjourn

3.5 hours (Category 2) SAF CFE credits will be available.
