Join other K-8 classroom and nonformal educators as we explore activities in the Project Learning Tree K-8 Curriculum Guide. Every participant will leave the workshop with the PLT K-8 Activity Guide which includes 96 activities correlated to the NC Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards. The PLT activity guides are provided free of charge to participants through support from the NC Forestry Association. CEU renewal credits are available. This workshop qualifies for Criteria I in the EE Certification Program. Lunch will be provided via sponsorship by the Union County SWCD.

Differentiated instruction?Technology connections? Literature links? STEM? The PLT activity guide covers it all!!! The PreK-8 guide is correlated to the Common Core (math and ELA) as well as to the NC Essential Standards (science and social studies). Participants will learn about the materials through direct engagement in the PLT activities throughout the workshop.

This workshop will focus on Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood. Please prepare to be outside for a portion of the workshop, and bring your lunch.

Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an interdisciplinary environmental education program designed for educators of ANY background. Participants in this professional learning experience will:

  • Receive PLT’s Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood Activity Guide and accompanying music CD
  • Identify new hands-on activities to share with learners based on the five senses, the seasons of the year, and trees in your neighborhood
  • Engage learners through song, dance, exploration, and play
  • Discover how to incorporate literature into your early childhood EE programs
  • Create a plan to infuse early childhood programming with environmental education learning experiences
  • Earn CEUs, in-service credit, or NC Environmental Education Certification hours

Pre-registration is required. There is a $20 fee for this workshop, but all participants will receive the PLT materials at no additional cost. Description:

This short course is being offered by Wood Products Extension at NC State University. It will provide practical knowledge about how lumber is effectively kiln dried and scientific background on related wood properties and processes. It will have value for the beginner as well as experienced kiln operators and with supervisors, sales, and marketing personnel. Instruction, by university faculty and industry experts, will be both in the classroom and through hands-on lab exercises using our 1000 BF steam heated dry kiln.
