Description:

You're invited to the annual Woodland Management Meeting in Bertie County! Last year's meeting had over 130 participants, showing the impact of forestry in Bertie County. The meeting is scheduled for January 23, 2020, at the Cashie Convention Center, 118 County Farm Road in Windsor. The meeting will begin at 6pm with a catered meal followed by updates from forestry professionals and program topics as outlined. Vendors from the industry will be on hand so come early to visit and ask questions about their services.

The majority of woodland owners will generally sell their timber once or twice in their lifetime. Depending on that timing, the question always comes up if and how to reforest the land. What are the options and considerations to be made; reforest or natural regeneration, plant only or bed, does my soil type matter, what species and grade of seedling to plant, is there money to help with planting? These are all important items and NC State Extension Forestry team members Colby Lambert and Dr. Mark Megalos will address these.

As a woodland owner, have you ever considered your responsibilities and more importantly your liabilities? How do you deter trespassing, are you liable if someone gets hurt on your land, what if he/she was not an invited guest, what about timber theft and how can you avoid it? NC State Extension Agricultural and Resource Economist, Andrew Branan, Esq., will address this broad issue and offer pointers for you to consider.

This will be an informative meeting and we hope you will save the date! Please call the NC Cooperative Extension Bertie County Center at (252) 794-5317 or email spowell@ncsu.edu by January 16th to register. This will help with planning for the meal.
