On Saturday, April 23, 2022, North Carolina 4-Hers are invited to come and compete at the state 4-H Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program state contest (WHEP). As we return to in-person events, Jordan Lake Educational State Forest will be the host for this year's contest. The top scoring Senior Team will have the opportunity to represent North Carolina at the National WHEP Invitational at the end of July in Kentucky. 

WHEP is a 4-H program that helps youth explore and learn about wildlife and the management of their habitats.  WHEP is sponsored nationally by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Extension Forestry, within NC State University’s College of Natural Resources, supports and promotes the WHEP program in North Carolina. The contest consists of wildlife identification and general wildlife knowledge, wildlife foods, aerial photo interpretation, and on-site wildlife habitat recommendations. All ages of registered 4-Hers are encouraged to participate in the WHEP contest and we encourage you to reach out to your county 4-H Agent to see if others in your county have already formed teams.
