Succession Planning

Succession and Estate planning is an essential tool in passing your land on to the next generation.  By planning, you reduce the risk of forest loss and conversion, which is at its highest when land transfer occurs.  To become better informed about planning your estate so that you're prepared when the time comes visit the Farm Succession and Transfer portal as well as the Estate Planning and Administration subtab.

Heirs property ownership continues to be one of the most vulnerable forms of land ownership in the United States. Read the short expalnation on Heirs Property Ownership (AG 946) to better understand what heirs property is, and how you might prevent or remediate heirs property ownership. Proper succession planning will reduce your risk of passing on your family forest as heirs property.
