Timber sales are often once- or twice-in-a-lifetime occurrences, which can make learning from experience a potentially very expensive lesson. When and how you sell your timber can influence a number of management objectives, including how much money you make, the cost of forest regeneration and your overall financial plans.

If you have ever wondered what questions to ask yourself before selling your timber, this booklet has a few to get you started, such as: how is timber bought and sold, and what is the fair market value of my timber? These questions may lead you to want to get in touch with a consulting forester, and this guide provides a good overview of how to select a consultant and what services they provide.
