Please join us in welcoming Dr. Jamie Bookwalter to the NC State Extension Forestry team!

Jamie is our newest Extension Specialist in mountain conifer IPM and is based out of the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center in Mills River, NC. To contact Jamie, email her at jbookwa@ncsu.edu or call her office at (828) 684-3562.

Learn more about Jamie: “I recently joined the NC State extension team as a mountain conifer IPM specialist. I just completed a doctoral degree at the Centre for Research on Ecology and Forestry Applications at Universitat de Barcelona Autònoma, and also hold an M.S. from the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (University of Georgia). I have private biological consulting, nonprofit, and research experience and have completed projects ranging from invasive woodwasp colonization to southern pine resin mass spectrometry. My doctoral research dealt with community patterns of saproxylic insects in mountain conifers in the high Pyrenees of Andorra, and I’m excited to delve into the complex interactions involving disease, insects, and plants occurring within mountain conifer fields in Western North Carolina. My goal is to empower Christmas tree growers to make informed and research-based decisions that both increase their success and foster environmental sustainability.”

We are excited to have yet another knowledgeable addition to our team! Please welcome her to the College of Natural Resources and keep an eye out for her work as she joins our outreach efforts.
