Description:

Increasing Participation in the USDA Conservation Reserve Program in N.C. Workshop (Halifax County)

When: Friday, March 31, 2023, 8am - 4pm ET

Where: Halifax Community College 100 College Drive 400 Building Weldon, NC 27890

Registration: Register in advance on the event page. Deadline is March 21st at 6pm.

This free workshop is organized by Roanoke Electric Cooperative's Sustainable Forestry and Land Retention Project and the University of Georgia's Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources. The purpose is to increase awareness of and participation in the Conservation Reserve Program. The program's long-term goal is to re-establish valuable land cover to help improve water quality, prevent soil erosion and reduce loss of wildlife habitat. In exchange for a yearly rental payment, farmers enrolled in the program agree to remove environmentally sensitive land from agricultural production and plant species that will improve environmental health and quality. Learn more about the program on the Conservation Reserve Program page.

The first 40 landowners registered for this workshop will receive a $25 gift card. You must be present at the workshop to receive the gift card; only one gift card is available per household.

SFLRP's partners for this workshop are: the USDA Farm Service Agency, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, NC State University's College of Natural Resources, Halifax Community College, the Small Business Center, the NC Forest Service and the University of Georgia's Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources.
